Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit, non-partisan, 501 (c)(3) organization founded in 2004. This organization is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries. We assist severely injured Servicemen and Women and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and then coordinating the process of building a new home or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility. The finished home is then given to the veteran.
All services provided by Homes for Our Troops are at no cost to the veterans we serve.

I am an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, having served from 1968 - 1974. I was a Boatswains Mate during most of my service at Life Boat Stations on the West Coast.
I have been living with metastatic thyroid cancer which has spread throughout my body. I am now in paliative care at the Veteran's Hospital because there is no more that can be done to cure the cancer. I also have many other medical problems. I have had cancer since 1997 and have had more than 20 surgeries, including a larynjectomy and three hip replacements due to bone deterioration.
I have been unable to work since 2001. My medical care is through the Veteran's Hospital. I have a co-pay because my cancer is not service-connected and I also have no health insurance for my wife.
I would be very grateful for any type of help that could be offered. My thanks go out to What A Country Challenge for performing this valuable service in helping veterans in need.
Sincerely, Martin S. Wise

My name is Sandy Anthony and my husband is Don Anthony a General Contractor and a U.S. Navy Veteran from 1971 to 1974. We have lived in Knightsen, CA for 6 years and we have 3 Beautiful daughters Kimberly, Danielle and Kristina.
Don’s poor health issues required him to have a bone to bone hip replacement and as a result Don was unemployed for quite some time. No sooner did we get through Don’s hip surgery in 2004, a lump was found in my breast which turned out to be malignant cancer. I immediately underwent radiation and Chemo treatments and soon was declared “Cancer free”.
One year later to the date, my breast cancer metasisized. As of today my cancer has spread to my lungs and my brain which are both inoperable. Don continues to have health problems as well and as a result we had to file bankruptcy in 2008. Our family would certainly appreciate your support and prays!
“We are a strong family and we know that we are not given more than we can handle”.
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely, Sandy Anthony & Family
